We interviewed Henrique- our latest TempTribe staff member that found full time employment with one of our clients-Hakkasan, a Michelin Star restaurant in Mayfair. He tells us about his career progression and challenges he had to overcome. We also asked Aurelien Pottier- General Manager of the restaurant about his experience of hiring Henrique.

How did your TempTribe journey begin?
I was not happy in my previous job and wanted a change. I was struggling at first as it’s not that easy to find a job in London. One day I was browsing Gumtree jobs section and stumbled upon the TempTribe ad. I applied online and not long after received an invitation to attend an interview. The very next day I got my first ever shift for TempTribe! It was at Conrad St James Hotel (former InterContinental Westminster).
You have done 400 shifts – that is very impressive! What was your favourite event/client that you worked at/with?
My first shift was very special to me and I enjoyed it a lot. Guess you never forget your first time, right? (laughing). I regularly worked at Twickenham Stadium during big events. Amongst others, favourite clients are Create, Kabballah Centre, Tanner & Co, Corinthia Hotel, Fay Husbands, House of Commons, Fortnum & Mason and Marriot Grosvenor Square. I also really enjoyed working at private parties!
Did you always want to work in the hospitality industry?
If I’m being honest – no. I have legal background and I was gaining experience in financial services. TempTribe was just the extra job to boost my income. I left my first job that I’ve been in for 7 years and got a position in legal office. However 3 months later I quit and joined TempTribe, through which I got a full time job. Once again LOLA saved me from trouble (laughing).
What motivates you when working in events?
The basic motivation is that I need to make my living and also my father is sick and I help him out by regularly sending him money. What motivates me to work hard every day is the smile on fellow colleagues’ faces. It goes a long way, especially if I have to deal with customer complaints. Interacting with guests is always an amazing experience. We work really hard to look after guests and it is always great to see the smiles and appreciation on their faces. Sometimes a simple smile says more than words.
What is the hardest aspect of working in hospitality?
I don’t tolerate rudeness, so sometimes it was hard to work with people with super-egos. We all have our own struggles but as a team we are there to make the event run as smoothly as possible.
If you didn’t work in hospitality, what job would you choose?
I really enjoy working in the legal sector. It’s such a wide field to explore!
How would you describe TempTribe in a few words?
My saviour! (laughing). I am really thankful as TempTribe team helped me overcome many personal issues. I didn’t just learn how to set up a room for a party, I learned how to deal with people. TempTribe gave me an opportunity to become a ‘new me’.
After working for Hakkasan for a few weeks, you got a full time position there! What experiences, professional or personal, have best prepared you for this job?
I got inspired by a speech that I heard on one of my shifts: “When you don’t have passion, find it. When you don’t have strength, find it. When you don’t have time, find it.” I was very impressed with Hakkassan so I went for an interview with them. I was so happy when I received an e-mail from TempTribe saying that I got the job as I wasn’t sure if I would get it. I have found passion and time. And feeling welcome by staff and management gave me the strength.
What is your plan for the future?
Short term: to do my best during the (very many!) trainings that Hakkasan provide. And next? They are a big group so sky is the limit. I hope to fly high with them!

What made you give Henrique a full time position in your restaurant?
Henrique demonstrated a great team spirit as well as a genuine passion for providing our guest with the best possible experience.
What qualities do you look for when hiring new staff?
Here are some of the main qualities we look at when hiring: 1. Experience in working in high volume, demanding environment 2. Experience in working in large multicultural team 3. Candidate should have a genuine interest about food and beverage in general 4. Candidates should have great personalities: humble, spontaneous, engaging and positive 5. Experience in providing excellent customer services in 5 star or fine dining restaurants 6. Understand the real meaning of Team work
How did you find a process of hiring someone full time through TempTribe?
It has truly been one of the easiest procedures I have experienced. We knew we could hire Henrique after 20 shifts. We soon became aware on how consistent Henrique was at delivering excellent service. All management came to an agreement that it was the time to reach out to TempTribe and express our interest in hiring him full time. Our account manager Diana was even more excited than we were when I told her the news. The following week Henrique was released and joined our team full time with no added fee needed to be paid.
