Last week we caught up with Emily Untalan-Lee from Bond Street Kitchen - the elegant restaurant situated on the second floor of Fenwick, serving British cuisine in a beautiful yet relaxed setting...
1. What do you love about working at Bond Street Kitchen most?
I really enjoy the whole Bond Street team work environment. It’s great to be a part of a family run business that is very attentive and invests in their team holistically. It’s also very inspiring to work in and amongst an amazing edit of fashion!
2.What does a day in the life of a restaurant manager look like?
I can say that both the restaurant manager and the head chef set the example for the team. Each manager would never dream of proclaiming their position as “The Manager,” rather they lead from the front like every legionnaire team members. Each working together for the same common goal. We have such a great front of house and back of house team that work beautifully together. I’m very thankful for everyone’s dedication and making their work environment more like a family.
3.What inspired you to work in the Hospitality industry?
Food and dining out has always been a fundamental pillar of my family growing up. Every important decision with the family, whether good or bad, was always around a table with food. After finishing university, I went to culinary school in the states. I started out as a chef de partie, then was persuaded by my GM, way back when, to move to the front of the house.
4.What qualities do you think makes hospitality staff stand out?
A genuine smile! An adaptable and easy going personality, and someone who has passion for food, wine and the dining culture around their community.
5.If you could get on a plane tomorrow, where would you go?
Etosha National Park, Namibia
6. If you could rule the World for 1 day, what would you do?
Ensure there is no press reporting or coverage of Trump for 24-hours.
