Fun, flexible, busy, exciting, eventful, social, entertaining, diverse… These are just some of the words that have previously been used to describe the everyday lives of our staff members. Are you considering joining TempTribe but aren’t sure what you’re getting yourself into?
Follow Zoe Mair, one of our star staff members, on one of her exciting days out working for us!
06:30 My alarm goes off – it’s time for another busy day as a TempTribe staff member! Today, I have a shift at the Kimpton Fitzroy Hotel.
I double check my shift notes, which ask me to be there 15 minutes before my 8 am start time. TempTribe always recommend arriving early for shifts so that you have plenty of time to sign in with security, collect any necessary uniform, change and be ready to work at the designated start time.
I put my hair into a neat bun and dress in my smart black trousers, black shoes and white shirt (which I ironed in preparation yesterday). Having worked at the Kimpton before, I know I’ll be given one of their shirts to wear upon arrival, but I always like to be prepared and follow the shift notes so that I’m smartly dressed and ready to work in the event that they’ve run out of shirts.
07:15 I’m ready to leave, so I grab some breakfast and head to the bus stop. I always try to eat before a shift because, if it’s busy, I might have to wait a while for a break. I hop on the 168 bus and arrive soon after.
07:45 I enter the venue through the staff entrance and sign in with security. I make sure to tell them that I’m from TempTribe and that I’ll be working in the Events department. I collect a shirt and waistcoat, change, and leave my belongings in one of the staff lockers.
I still have 5 minutes until I need to sign in with the Events manager, so I get a quick cup of coffee from the staff canteen to give me some energy for my shift!
08:00 I sign in with the manager in the Events office and meet up with the rest of the TempTribe team on shift today. It’s nice to see some familiar faces!
We are given the brief for the day – the event is a corporate conference upstairs in the beautiful Palm Court.
08:10 Briefing is over – it’s time to get to work! 200 guests will be arriving at 9am, so we need to set up the room with tea, coffee and pastries for them. We split the tasks between ourselves. My job is to brew the coffee ready for the drinks station.
09:00 The guests arrive and I man the tea and coffee station while my teammates help to clear and replenish as needed. After they have finished, they enter the conference room and we clear away.
10:10 After clearing away and taking a quick coffee break for ourselves, we begin to set up for the mid-morning break. The set-up remains the same so all we need to do is refill the coffee, hot water, cups and saucers.
10:45 The guests pour into Palm Court again. This time, I am clearing away empty cups and rubbish while someone else takes a turn at manning the coffee station.
11:15 We begin to clear and set up for lunch. We have over an hour, but it is the biggest job of the day, so we need to work quickly! We build a lunch buffet, a dessert station and refill the coffee once more, as well as make sure we have enough plates and cutlery for all the guests.
12:30 Lunch service begins and we are rushed off our feet! We man the buffet, restocking as necessary, and clear dirty plates.
13:30 Finally, the lunch service is finished and the rush is over. We clear away as quickly as possible, so that we can take our lunch break and enjoy a rest.
14:00 We all head down to the staff canteen together. Most hotel venues have a staff canteen with a great variety of options and we all pick something to eat before sitting down together for a half hour break, where we chat about other shifts that we have coming up.
14:30 We get back to work and begin to prepare for the guests’ final break. We finish setting up early and take a moment to help out in the back of house area, polishing glasses and cutlery.
15:30 The final break is over and we have half an hour until our shift is due to end. On a busy day, we might need to stay a little later, but we manage to finish clearing away with 5 minutes to spare. Happy with our work, our manager lets us sign out.
16:30 I arrive home and look forward to an afternoon of relaxing! My timesheet has appeared on the app, so I fill out the hours I worked, including the half hour break I took, so that I can be paid accurately.
22:30 I get ready to go to sleep after a busy day. I check my app one last time before I sleep as I have another shift tomorrow. I’ve ironed a black shirt in advance and put my passport in my bag as this is what the shift requires. I’m prepared for tomorrow’s event and ready for another day as a TempTribe staff member!
Uff, how’s that for a busy day?! If you would like to have as much fun as Zoe does on her shifts, make sure to fill out your application and join us today!
One thing we do ask though, is that you don’t expect that every day will look just like that. Why?
Because with TempTribe’s flexible working and various fantastic venues you can be sure that no day will be like the other.
